The Chimay Blue Cap, “baptised’ “Grande Reserve” in 750 ml bottles is a dark Trappist beer with a powerful aroma, the complex flavour of which improves across the years. It was first brewed as a Christmas beer, explaining the presence of a “vintage”.This authentic Belgian beer, whose tinge of fresh yeast is associated with a light rosy flowery touch, is particularly pleasant. Its aroma, perceived as one enjoys it, only accents the delightful sensations revealed by the odour, all revealing a light but agreeable caramelised note.It is served ideally at cellar temperature (10 to 12C).

We are pleased to announce this excellent line-up for our beer and cider festival on 3rd and 4th Jan. People who like music, might plan to come later in the day, if you don’t like music, there is plenty of time to enjoy the beer in the normal relaxed and friendly atmosphere at Blackfriars Tavern during the daytime opening from 11am both days.

Friday 7:30 onwards Matt James & Phil – A blend of music from the last 60 years all played in a unique and memorable style. Everything from Johnny Cash to Britney Spears.

Saturday 5pm till 7pm Retro Firefly – she played at one of our previous festivals with her beautiful crystal clear voice, singing and playing her own original material – now with enough for two full sets of indie-folk vibe, taking inspiration from artists such as James Blunt and Aurora.

Saturday 8 till 10:30pm Murphy’s Lore – Irish Folk Trio – lively fun band – Guitar, Bodram and Fiddle. Based in Lowestoft and Norwich, Murphy’s Lore are one of the UK’s most established independent folk rock bands and have played extensively across the UK over the last decade

Gouyasse was the first beer brewed from the Brasserie des Geants (August 2000) and it took several months to develop.The wish of Master Brewer Pierre Delcoigne was to produce a beer rich in
flavours but fairly light in alcohol, working only with the four raw
materials (malt, hops, water and yeast), without adding any additives.Pouring the first three quarters of the bottle the beer is a beautiful light yellow. When the final quarter is poured it becomes cloudy from the sediment.A perfect balance of a dry beer but not overpowering bitterness and a maltiness which softens the hoppiness.

Vedett IPA

A 5.5% Pale Ales Style India Pale Ale from Belgium,usually available at The Blackfriars Tavern in Great Yarmouth, FB: BlackfriarsTavern

Vedett IPA is a Belgian pale ale from Duvel Moortgat in a small town called Purs in the Belgian province of Antwerp. From its beginnings in the 19th century as a farm brewery, the brewery went on to acquire the licence for the production of Maredsous Abbey beers, shortly after, introducing the Vedett name for the breweryÕs export pils. Winner of the World Beer Awards 2017, Vedett IPA is a thirst-quenching, hoppy beer with fruity, floral aromas underpinned by citrus flavours and a long, dry, bitter finish. Two varieties of American hops are used in the boiling process and a further two American hops are used for the dry hopping. Verdett IPA pours a copper colour with a slightly cloudy appearance, characteristic of an unfiltered beer that re-ferments in the bottle. La Divine is a Belgian strong ale from Belgian brewery Brasserie de Silly. Established in the Belgian village of Silly in 1850, this family-owned brewer is serious about beer! La Divine is Belgian Tripel ale Ð brewed with three times the malt compared with a standard Belgian ale with a rich, fruity flavour and pleasant warming effect from the 9.5% ABV. Pouring a hazy deep amber colour, La Divine offers up a mild aroma, with hints of fruit and malt sweetness. The flavour is sweet and fruity, with hints of caramel and orange bitterness.
