As Belinda Carlisle once said, if heaven is a place on earth then it’s the Blackfriars Tavern. So many expertly kept ales to choose from that a minimum of at least one day off is required to appreciate them all. A pie that not only has a bottom but was actually made with human hands. Gravy that has no recollection of Preston but of bones, scrag ends and the tops and tails of vegetables. The crowning glory though, chips like tiny roasties, still with there skins intact. Like the ones your gran would cook you up in her ridiculously dangerous chip pan. What every pub should be like. I quite liked it x

Really great traditional pub.A limited menu but the food on offer is amazing.Wide selection of real ales at reasonable prices. The provision of board games is a novel approach with many customers playing chess, dominos and the like.A real mixture of ages present during my 2 recent visits all having a good time.

A real ale drinker’s heaven! 18 hand pumps, not all on at once except during beer festivals. 9 active pumps during my visit serving 6 real ales & 3 ciders. Definitely worth seeking out.
Blackfriars Tavern is one of the best traditional cask ale pubs in Great Yarmouth. It's located in the less-than-thrilling hinterland of town, close to the remains of its medieval wall. The pub is totally worth the walk from the seafront (or, alternatively, the station). There's at least ten(!) taps available at all times (a couple were out on my visit), and they're all beers from that area. A bunch of pub games are lying about, indicating a lively community pub. The interior is traditional too, appealing mostly to old punters. There's a small but convenient outside seating area to the back. I found the landlady to be most helpful and welcoming. Alas, I had only time for a single pint. Wholly recommended.

I often visit pubs, this is one of the best! Fantastic selection of real ales. Really comfortable and relaxed atmosphere with games/cards on every table. I really could spend all day here it’s really worth a visit! The owners are super friendly and know their beers very very well and are able to suggest based upon your preference. All areas are clean, tidy and well presented. Those who don’t want alcohol are very well catered for too with a selection of loose tea’s to chose from. Well behaved dogs are welcomed and treated with cuddles and free gravy bones! They sell food such as home made pies and (more than) triple cooked chips and sometimes provide nibbles during your visit. We didn’t have the chance to eat but the food we saw served looked absolutely amazing.Thank you for making our trip to Great Yarmouth that little bit more magical we’ll be sure to return again soon!
