Hildegard returned from the Anchorage Barleywine Festival, January 2005,
inspired by the wonderfully hoppy beers she tried there. Barleywines, IPA,
Double IPA and all manner of over-the-top beers sparked her creative
impulse and the result is Belgium’s first Belgian Style IPA, Urthel Hop-It
of 9.5% ABV.With the creation of Urthel Hop-It, Hildegard started a new trend in the
Belgian Art of Brewing which inspired her colleagues in the following years.Urthel Hop-It is brewed with only malt (pils) and three European Nobel
hops. It’s a truly unique beer for hop lovers. Pale golden in colour with
billowing white foam, the nose is hoppy and spicy.On the pallet, Urthel Hop-It is very hoppy and intoxicatingly bitter but
curiously well balanced. The malt and hops intertwine in a beautiful
expression of complexity, contrast and complementary flavour. This makes
Urthel Hop-It original, unequalled and a beer to enjoy with good friends.

Brigand

In 1978 the Flemish peasants (the Brigands) expelled the French soldiers (sans-culottes) from Ingelmunster. Like the freedom fighters of yesteryear, Brigand is strong and powerful. It is a blond coloured beer with a rich flavour and slightly bitter hops.

A clear, sparkling Trappist beer with a high fermentation level. Fresh and fruity taste with a soft bitter aftertaste. The various types of hops add an aromatic smell.

Lindemans Faro Lambic

4.5% Lambic Style Faro, usually available at The Blackfriars Tavern in Great Yarmouth, FB: BlackfriarsTavern

A version of Belgium’s “wild-fermented” wheat beer, which is the result of blending Lambic of “one summer” with old Lambic and chaptalized with candy sugar.

Faro is an intriguing balance of wineyness and sweetness. This was probably the beer being served in Breugel’s paintings of Flemish Village Life.Faro is a delicious accompaniment of a whole assortment of desserts.

Lindemans Pecheresse

2.5% Lambic Style Fruit Beer, usually available at The Blackfriars Tavern in Great Yarmouth, FB: BlackfriarsTavern

Pecheresse has been developed by Lindemans brewery, using straight juice-method. The result is a fresh fruity drink with the background of the rich bouquet of Lambic.

Golden in colour, with a nose that fills the room with fresh peaches. Sparkling, crisp and refreshing balance of fruit and acid.

After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it has been blended with wine… Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 9 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wall painting found in Spain (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30.000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, continuing the tradition.

Since 2000 as the yeast supply ceased, we installed a new yeast propagator. The tart aftertaste is obtained by lacto bacterial fermentation (since 2005).

De Dolle Oerbier

9% Belgian Style Strong Ale, usually available at The Blackfriars Tavern in Great Yarmouth, FB: BlackfriarsTavern

Oerbier means original, from the source. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons) at home in a copper wash kettle, by two brothers who were students at the time. They took over an old brewery which was out of business and said: “If we don’t bring the brewery back to life, nobody will!” It was also a unique opportunity to create some interesting brews, so why not try it? Therefore we went ahead. We did the main work ourselves and kept the scale of the brewery as it was. Since then, the brewery and its beers have been an inspiration for a lot of brewers. Oerbier is brewed from all different malts, Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C allowing Oerbier to age at its best.

Arabier is a pure malt beer brewed with flower Nugget-hops from Poperinge. It has the special dry-hopping taste and aroma, so appreciated by beer lovers all over the world. It is one of the two main beers from De Dolle Brouwers throughout the year. Aging time is limited due to the fact that hop bitterness is declining with the time

Arend Tripel has an intense, full flavour and is characterised by a balanced combination of subtle bitterness and pleasant fruitiness. The spicy after taste makes this beer a contemporary high fermentation beer.

Chapeau Plum is a plum-flavoured lambic beer from Brewery De Troch. Specialising in lambic beers, Brewery De Troch has been brewing in Wambeek, located in the countryside around Brussels, since the 19th century. Brewed with Mirabelle plum juice, this lambic beer is fruity, with a tart finish. Pouring a hazy golden colour, Chapeau Plum offers up aromas of plum, apricot and a little cherry. The flavour is funky, with a fruity sweetness and a slightly tart finish.

Chapeau Peach is a peach-flavoured lambic beer from Brewery De Troch. Specialising in lambic beers, Brewery De Troch has been brewing in Wambeek, located in the countryside around Brussels, since the 19th century. Brewed using natural peach juice, Chapeau Peach is sweet and aromatic with a sweet and sour peach flavour. Pouring a pale yellow colour, Chapeau Peach offers up aromas of peach and apricots. The flavour is sweet, with distinct peach flavours cutting through the sourness from the lambic.
